It was eight years of piano lessons (1 of those in college) that sparked my interest in the care of pianos. A year after my 1974 graduation from college, I enrolled in a program at the Sims School of Piano Technology, at the time in Columbus, Georgia. Upon receiving my certification in the spring of 1976, I took a job in the shop of Case Brothers Pianos of Spartanburg (SC), where I learned piano action restoration. This was followed by a year at Jack Call Piano Company in Charlotte (NC) where I learned restringing of pianos. The experiences in these settings is where I gained the skills I would need to pass the exams given by the Piano Technicians Guild to become a Registered Piano Technician. I have been tuning and repairing pianos now for over 45 years and I continue my membership in the Piano Technicians Guild. I’ve found great satisfaction in the work, and my hope if you should use my services is that you will consider your piano’s care to be in the best of hands.
